Home Sweet Office
When you’re at home, you feel comforted by your warm walls, foot-friendly floors, and comfortable furniture. People decorate their homes because they love spending time there; it’s cozy and inviting. So decorating your office in the same manner will make it feel more like home and less like the daily grind. There are easy ways to decorate your office and create a sense of coziness while still maintaining an overall professional feel. The trick is to keep your traditional office structure and incorporate certain elements that warm up a space. Here are my favorite tips on how to make your office feel homier.
Wall Art
You may not be able to paint your walls at work, but there are definitely things you can do to make it resemble home a bit more. Hang a few pictures or pieces of artwork to create a space with more character. Add as much color to the walls as you can. Color affects our mood; so don’t let yours be the same dull gray as your office walls.
A Fluffy Rug
At home, your bare feet may sink into your new plush carpet but at work, it’s probably not the same experience. You can’t replace the carpet in your office but you can certainly bring a relaxing rug for your feet. Kick off your shoes and give your feet a break with something that looks and feels good to your toes.
Flowers and Plants
Flowering plants are cheerful and easy to take care of. The extra life in the office will lift your spirits and the mood of everyone around you. Plants are an important part of the office design beyond just the aesthetic value. In fact, studies have shown they help reduce stress, enhance employee attitudes, increase productivity, and improve air quality.
Accessorize
Just like you need art on your walls, you need some color on your furniture. If you’re lucky enough to have a comfy chair or couch in the office, make sure to bring a few colorful throw pillows and a throw blanket to go along with it. Stripes and floral prints together create a very cozy combination, in my opinion.
Lighting
Lighting is crucial to design. If you’re lucky enough to have a window in your office, use it to your advantage to really bring light into the room. If you don’t have a window, bring a few lamps to brighten up the dark office. Lamps can also help add color to the room.
Storage
Use your office furniture to hide and organize your binders and file folders. When it doubt, get it off the desk and into cabinets. If you can use office cabinets, make sure to find beautiful pieces that you’d place in your own home.
