Do Green Office Buildings Lead to Higher Satisfaction?
Research conducted by DTZ, a global commercial real estate services firm, has confirmed providing sustainable commercial space does lead to higher occupant satisfaction. The examined the three certifications common in the U.S. They are LEED points, EPA’s ENERGY STAR, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s sustainability and energy scorecard used by goverment entities.
The last certification listed, OMB did not have any affect on the satisfaction of tenants. However, LEED and ENERGY STAR certifications affected satisfaction ratings by an average of 10 to 30 points, respectively.
Allison Porter, VP of Sustainability Services for DTZ recently gave her top four reasons why tenants like green buildings:
1. Green office buildings are comfortable.
2. Green office building tenants feel engaged.
3. Green office building tenants have their own goals that certifications help them achieve.
4. Green office buildings attract the best talent.
